Virtual Assistant (VA) is one of the most in-demand jobs nowadays as we transitioned into a more modern and technology-friendly working style. Happy to say that being virtual assistant has a lot of benefits and perks ranging from competitive salary to achieving work-life balance. But how can someone be an effective and efficient virtual assistant? Here are some tips to keep in mind.
1. Equip yourself.
Equip yourself with what? First is the work station. Since working as a VA is a remote work, you need to have a good workspace. If possible, you can have your own small office at home dedicated for work. This will help you put boundaries between work and personal life. In addition, having a neat background for online meetings is important. You don’t want to distract clients with people roaming around or clothes hanging in your background. Also, you should have your gadgets ready such as a working laptop, headset for online meetings, external camera if you have a computer, and of course, the Internet. If you have these ready, you can start your journey as a VA.

2. Invest into trainings or online courses.
There are a lot of companies that offer free trainings. You can check them out. But if you haven’t applied to a company because you lack self-confidence, you can invest into trainings by enrolling to online courses. A popular marketplace in the industry is the Surge Marketplace where they offer different courses for a very affordable price. But don’t let the word “affordable” trick you, it doesn’t mean they have second-rate or satisfactory service. They offer a wide range of portfolio-based courses with coaching sessions. This will help you hone yourself and your skills. The coaches won’t let you go half-baked in the industry. Once you have acquired the skills and competencies, you’ll be confident looking for and serving clients.
3. Stay organized, focused, and attentive to details.
Once you found your client, apply all the knowledge you gained from the trainings and satisfy them. Be organized and manage your tasks well. You have to strategize on how to accomplish your tasks so you don’t miss anything. Avoid distractions. In this kind of work set-up, social media, and family members are on the top of the list of distractions. Stay focused and concentrate until the work is done. Also, be detail-oriented. Working independently with less supervision is a challenge. Hence, being attentive to details is a must. It’s very important because errors can cost you and your client money, can be time-consuming and detrimental as they can ruin you and your client’s reputation. Also, a minor mistake – missing information or typo – can cause a big frustration and disappointment on the client’s end. Therefore, be detail-oriented.
4. Be open for challenges and always do your best.
Your clients may ask you to do things out of your comfort zone or things that you did not learn during the training. Be ready to handle challenges well. Always do your best by striving to be better. Don’t be lenient but instead, be hungry for growth. You can enroll to other courses that may help you develop and expand your skills more. Also, technical issues, power outage and Internet interruption may come along the way so be ready to have a back-up.
Once you keep these in mind, rewards and perks are just a click away. Be client-based and focus on satisfying them. This is my goal as a Virtual Assistant. I, VA Karen, wants to render excellent administrative services to clients rooted in professionalism and integrity.
Do your best and keep your clients coming!
